So we want to cluser two of the 6 systems with PowerHA/HACMP to solve this. I have read multiple documents. Some state it will if GPFS version is lower than 2.3 other claim that it only works in AIX.

So, will the work and what versions of GPFS and PowerHA/HACMP should we use? Are there alternatives to solve this issue other than building a third DC.

    1. You can't use PowerHA SystemMirror (aka HACMP) to manage any GPFS resources (network and/or storage).
    2. GPFS and PowerHA SystemMirror have no interaction and/or dependencies. You can run both programs on the same set of servers, but they don't "talk" to each other.
    3. GPFS V2.3 is long out-of-date and out of service (Sep 2008).
    4. You can use GPFS replication to provide availability between sites, but to truly be available (i.e. not have a single site failure cause a failure in the second site), you have to use a 3rd site tiebreaker as discussed here:

    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/clresctr/vxrx/topic/com.ibm.cluster.gpfs.v3r4.gpfs200.doc/bl1adv_gpfsrep.html

If you don't use the 3rd site, then you're in the same boat with regards to a loss of quorum.
