Portlets management best practices

    Hi all,

I’m currently working on some portlets, pages and shells and I have a couple of questions regarding some best practices.

My main concern is related to the structure of the pages/portlets and how to link them together.

I have 3 shell sections at the moment: one header, one left nav and one content.
For instance, on loading the home page my content page will be made of 2 portlets: one portlet for the list of item and one portlet for the detail of a selected item (like in outlook).

My question is: what should happen if I click a button on the left nav that link on another portlet: should it load on the content’s shell section or should it load another shell or should it be a different view of the current portlet?

thanks in advance for your help!

    J
