  • 1.  Poisson regression - control for a variable

    Posted Wed March 02, 2022 09:17 AM

    Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find a way to control for a continuous variable in poisson regression. I have a number of continuous variables which I am inserting into the 'covariates' section, and can't find a way to control for another continuous variable. Is this possible in poisson regression? If so, can anyone please tell me how to do this on SPSS?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hannah

Hi. As you've seen, the Generalized Linear Models procedure does not step in variables.

    From one of our statisticians:

"If you fit a model with that predictor and all the other ones in it, then those are all controlled for that one (each is controlled for all the others) in the coefficient output with its tests and confidence intervals. That's the same in Poisson regression as it is in linear regression. We don't have a way to do automated stepwise or block-wise model fitting in generalized linear models. If you want to look at individual variables controlling for just that one variable, you'd have to do those one at a time, fitting each two-variable model separately."
