  • 1.  Physical HMC to Virtual HMC migration

    Hi Everyone,

    We have a HMC with below version and model. We would like to migrate to latest virtual HMC.
    is this model/version compatible with virtual HMC? 
    what else to be checked for this migration?


    Model - 7042CR8
    Version - V8R8.2.0.0

    While you can probably perform the task, there isn't any documentation or support for re-installing the physical IBM HMC with your own hypervisor layer upon which you can then install the vHMC code.  The physical HMC only officially supports the non-virtualized code.

    You follow the same process as moving your machines to a new physical HMC, just this time it's a virtual HMC running on VMWare/KVM/HyperV instead of a physical HMC.

    Hi,
    You can also install the vHMC on PowerVM, but the vHMC cannot manage the server on which it is installed, so you need a minimum of 2 physical server and 2 vHMC in this case.
