  • 1.  PAW Subtotal for Row Dimensions

    Posted Fri March 29, 2019 06:24 PM
    Hi Community,

I have a PAW explore where I'm bringing in a few dimensions into my row range, my time dimension in the columns, and an amount measure as the intersection point.

I'd like to have each element within each dimension to subtotal (similar to how a native Excel pivot table allows for subtotaling a dimension value if it has multiple records/rows across its combinations.

I'm looking for how to get PAW to do something similar like the following simple yellow-highlighted example below.  If there were duplicate values in the 'master_product_slug' field, then I'd like to have the functionality to subtotal also by any duplicated items too.

Appreciate any help, thoughts (calculated members, MDX, etc.)

    Tom,
Based on what you describe you could pull the relative totals from the other dimensions on the rows ('Total Master Slug for example).
Having multiple totals on rows can make a view quite large and hard to navigate, so you can use Asymmetric selection in PAW to only show the the subtotals at the valid intersections. (described as target selections here: https://blog.quebit.com/blog/quebit-blog-planning-analytics-workspace-paw-pro-tips-1-using-targeted-selections)

While this works, it does take some time and setup. An active forum with multiple sections may also work.

It would be a nice feature to have PAW support automatic subtotals, even if they don't exist in a dimension.

    Best,
    Ryan
