    Hi, 

    Another issue I have with PAW is with row headers in cube views (strictly they are column headers but I mean the headers for the dimensions in the rows). 

    I build a nice report, it works as required but if I want row headers, as one would expect on say a finance report, there is no easy way as far as I can see to achieve this in PAW. I could unhide the space consuming dimension overview, but I very often want to hide these. 

    When I do hide them, I get nothing in the headers for the row dimensions in the view. I may have 6 or 7 dimensions in the row selection but no headers to inform the user what each row header is. 

    I could drag on a text object, try resizing it and hope it works but this brings different issues, and only allows me to hard code the headers in, when I might want to refer to an attribute name, held in some system cube.
     

    Basically, I would like to see the ability to add a header object over the rows, that fits neatly and looks professional, so the user knows what each row header refers to.

    Obviously in a PAX report this is much easier to achieve because I can refer to cells and add column headers into them. But I want to build my reports in PAW and not in PAX!

    Hi Mark,

    I agree 100 %. As you wrote, there are ways around but I also want to build as much as possible directly in PAW. 

    I tried to add row headers with text objects but then we are back to the column width issue you posted earlier. For the dimension in the rows I allow "Show +/- on rows". When I collapse / expand in the rows dimension, the column width of the row dimension changes a bit (for whatever reason) and the text object header looks out of place.  

    Let's hope row headers are on the agenda for the updated design for the Workspace cube viewer which Stuart mentioned.

    Just bumping this up to see if hardcoded text widgets are still the only way to have a row dimension header displayed? 
    Can't see any other option and using text widgets is quite bad for all the reasons mentioned above.

    I can confirm that IBM is tracking an enhancement request for this feature.  There is a strong focus on formatting features for the cube viewer this year.  This includes more formatting options for the row and column headers.

    Is there maybe a timeline for when row titles will appear as a formatting option? Text widgets are very very clunky.

    Here are some screenshots from 2.0.99 (upcoming October release of PAW).  There are some padding issues in the screenshots below that we are still working on.

     

    New options in the format manager:

    Impact on the cube viewer:

    You will be able to enable\disable the 'Thumb' cells.  If the thumb cells are enabled then you can choose to enable or disable the icon (the triangle), enable or disable the hierarchy name, and optionally apply the format option from the member named to the thumb cells.  This can be done independently for the row and column axes.

    If you have the column header thumb cells enabled you can drag the left side of the cell to make more room for the hierarchy name.

    Lots more formatting options to come including format options that will allow the format of the thumb cells to be independent from the member names on the same axis.
