  • 1.  PAW Button - Pass Context

    Posted Tue August 13, 2024 07:42 AM

When you use the PAW button for navigation and select to Pass Context, it not only passes the Selector dimension element but also the set.  Is there anyway to only pass the element and not the set?  We have PAW pages where the sets are different, but we do want to pass the elements, as they are in both the source and target selectors.  Is there a setting for this?

There is no setting for this. Pass Context works off the synchronize settings on the sheet which also also passes over the selected element and set. Passing the set makes sense since you can not ensure the chosen element also exists in the target sheet's set. Feel free to raise an enhancement (aha site) for Product Management's take on this.

    Hi Terry,

Yin is correct that there is no setting to pass the selected element but not the set.  If we wanted to build such a feature we would need to consider what happens when the hierarchy in the target book does not use a set with the selected element from the same hierarchy in the source book.

The good news is that we are already planning a major enhancement in this area of Workspace. In 2.0.99 we are introducing a signifigant improvement to the 'pass context' feature.  This improvement will allow book authors to configure which synchronization groups in the source book are used to pass context to specific synchronization groups in the target book.  The book author can choose which hierarchies from synchronization groups in the source book are used to pass context.  In the current context passing feature all hierarchies are used.  This will support use cases where navigation between books being used to drill or examine related data and generally allow for much more interactive navigation between books.
