Thank you very much for your valuable information. The installation on Windows 2022 went fine with Mirantis. Bernd Sieberts Company is a perfect option in case Mirantis Support and LIcensing is needed. - As we are using Debian throughout all of our infrastructure components (including Proxmox / CEPH Hypervisor Cluster) we appreciate a lot that we can run the IBM Environments also there. TM1 Server on Windows is fine for us but for the PAw Component a lightweight Linux-based host is a nice option.

The difference being that PAW is containerized and TM1, v11, is not. If you want to run TM1 v11 anywhere simply package it up using RedHat's Universal Base Image (UBI) and happily deploy it on essentially any Linux distro. Just saying in case you want some more flexibility/fun in your testing/R&D environments.

I can confirm that PAW runs happily on Ubuntu based distros - I run it on PopOS on a dual boot mini PC.
PAL (TM1) needs a distro closer to RH. I used to run it on Centos 7 but with the changes in Centos I have abandoned that and gone for AlmaLinux 8.7. This is running under VMWare Workstation 17.
Both of these are for testing and R&D only. I'm not planning to raise any support tickets for either....

Hi Philipp,
My previous comment in this thread lists all of the different deployment options for Planning Analytics Workspace.
I would suspect that PAW could run on CentOS, Debian, and other variants of Linux. My team only tests with Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux so we can only list those operating systems as supported environments. The list of supported environment reflects what IBM tests, not what actually works if it were to be tested.
Docker (the container runtime) and Docker-Compose are two different things. You need both a container runtime and Docker-Compose to run the non-OpenShift variant of PAW. Docker-Compose is the component that allows our containers to talk to each other (provides the internal network used by the containers on the host).
I'm not clear about your question regarding the installation guide for 10. The PAW install documentation is found here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/planning-analytics/2.0.0?topic=configuration-installing-planning-analytics-workspace-local

Dear Stuart
We used to run the Docker environment on Debian (worked super fine) then we moved to the supported CentOS environment (worked super fine) and now the customer wants to move to Windows 2022. We realize that we have to pay USD 900 p.a. for the Mirantis support. Are there other options for the latest PAW version?
I saw that the file docker-compose-Windows-x86_64.exe is shipped with the IBM Software. Can we run the Docker Container with Docker-compose on Windows?
The link in the read_me file is this one here: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSD29G_2.0.0 Is there an installation guide for 10.
Any help is appreciated.

The container images for the distributed variant of PAW and the non-distributed variant are the same. Note that when you download a current release of PAW from the IBM Fix Central or IBM Passport Advantage web portals there are separate downloads for the distributed and non-distributed variants. The distributed kit contains the extra scripts and config files to deploy on OpenShift.

Thanks for the clarification Stuart.
Just to confirm, we can run PAW distributed using Podman pods?

The current deployment options for PAW 2.0.96+ are this:
1 - Windows Server 2019 or 2022 with Mirantis Container Runtime. A paid license is required based on infomration provided by Mirantis.
2 - RHEL 8 or 9 using Podman. Podman does not require a separate license and would be supported through Red Hat.
3 - Red Hat OpenShift. OpenShift is typically deployed on a cluster of servers. Note that OpenShift can be deployed on premise (on your own hardware) or as a managed service on a cloud provider like AWS, Azure, or IBM Cloud. The OS under OpenShift is largely irrelevant (OpenShift is more or less an OS for a cluster of servers).

Hi Stuart,
I have just been planning our install of PAW 2.0.96, which will be a locally installed PAW Distributed. We can either use Windows Server 2022 or RHEL 8. Am I right in thinking that I have the following options:
- Windows Server 2022 - Mirantis Container Runtime (will need a paid licence)
- RHEL 8 - OpenShift Entry Level (will need a paid licence)
- RHEL 8 - Docker Engine (free)
Alternatively, if we were to just go with PAW Local:
- Windows Server 2022 - Mirantis Container Runtime (will need a paid licence)
- RHEL 8 - Podman (free)
I also noted that https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/planning-analytics/2.0.0?topic=configuration-installing-planning-analytics-workspace-local doesn't have an entry for Windows Server 2022 - but just assumed this hasn't been updated yet so I followed the 2019 parameters.

Hi George,
Windows Server 2022 is supported with PAW 2.0.96. The supported environments page (https://www.ibm.com/software/reports/compatibility/clarity-reports/report/html/osForProduct?deliverableId=0C4568D098EC11E9A83D99924272C08A&osPlatforms=Linux|Windows&duComponentIds=D003|D002|D001|S008|S006|S007) is being updated this week. You should see Windows Server 2022 support on this page by the end of this week.
Did you download PAW 2.0.96 from IBM Fix Central yet? The kit for Windows Sevrer 2022 has win_2022 in the file name.

Hi Stuart,
2.0.96 was released on the 28th but I can't find anything that states support for Windows Server 2022 in the documentation or the What's New updates.
Can you confirm whether or not this made it into the release, and if not when you might be expecting it?
Regards,
George

I have an early build of Planning Analytics Workspace 2.0.96 running on Windows Server 2022. I cannot provide a guarantee, but it should be imminent (the 2.0.96 and 2.1.3 releases in late May).

In the recent AMA it was mentioned that Windows Server 2022 was going to be supported. For PAW, is this imminent or will this still be a few months off?
