  • 1.  Paste data ignoring cells with rules

    Posted Tue October 08, 2024 10:40 AM

    Hi,

I want to paste data with the same order in my Excel file, but it does not allow it because there are rules in some cells. How can I bypass the cells with rules and let it paste?

    Best Regards,

    Thank you

The best approach is to create a TI process in the original cube that pulls in the excel file data and only updates the no rule based cells. But to answer your question, one approach would be to create a TI process that replicates the cube without the rules. Copy-paste your values from excel into that new cube ("Input Cube"). Add a set of rules to your original cube to pull the data from the Input Cube into the original cube. This will ensure that the existing rules will function and that you have an easy copy-paste process from excel.

I would like to second the need for this. In fact I thought at one point I had created an idea for it but I’ll have to go back and look. It’s extremely frustrating to create an interface for the end user and then tell them they have to copy paste multiple times based on where rule based cells are.

One example for us is workforce where you may want to paste the data from one row to another but can’t due to calcs being shown in the view.

The simplest work around we have is to create a view that has only the writable columns.
