Also about the behaviour that causes the logout. When trying to change the filter subnm, I take it you mean tries to go into the subset editor.
Does the error occur when opening views or amending subsets from other dimensions.
I while back I had a client whose Paw kept crashing because of a particular "forbidden" characters had been populated in a text attribute.
Does the subset editor also work fine in Paw through Edge/chrome etc.. With ie closed
Does the client have any file monitoring tools they could use to track file activity whilst the is replicated, perhaps that might show something.
Have you tried switching the model to security mode 1 (native tm1 authentication) and seeing if this is indeed a cookie related issue.
It sure sounds like a dozy of a problem. And I hope some of these ideas help.

When reverting back to 2.0.66 the cookie is created in the IE cache and everything works. So something must have changed in 2.0.69 to break things. What is interesting: The cookies appear to be stored in a deprecated place with 2.0.66:

- Since moving to pafe 2.0.69 and getting this error, have you tried moving a user back to pafe 2.0.66 and seeing if it still occurs?
- Have you tried installing pafe 2.0.69 onto a machine that's never had pafe installed before, and does it still error then?
If both 2.0.66 and 2.0.69 are getting the error both an existing and new machines, as George says, I suspect the cookie is being blocked.

Shell:Cookies in the IE address bar should take you to the relevant folder.
Perhaps the customer has some sort of Group Policy that prevents the creation of cookies (possibly 3rd party) or changing privacy settings?

1) We can't add the affected site to this list, since IE thinks it is an invalid domain. However this should not be the issue, since the same settings work for other customers of ours.

It feels like something to do with cookies which I know you mentioned you cleared etc. But throwing out some ideas just in case.
1) Site Privace Actions - have you added your site to the list?
2) Advanced Privacy Settings - Have you configured per below?
3) After clearing the cache, cookies etc do you have any cookies left in %LocalAppData%\\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache?
4) Assuming you have just cleared and no cookies persist. If you log into PAfE, does the cookie:<user>@login.ibm.com get created?
Let us know on the above. May give insight where someone has an answer.
Edit: Also check that nothing is kept in %LocalAppData%\\Microsoft\Windows\INetCookies.

This happens for all users and after upgrading to PAfE 2.0.69. from PAfE 2.0.66.
SSO is used, but the issue still persists with user and password login.

The message and the temporary solution are related, PAX has a dependency on IE for authentication.
Do you have SSO, have you tried disabling it and does it still occur?
I think I recall seeing this issue before on, but I can't recall the details, I'll try and dig into the memory banks :)

unfortunately we do not see anything significant inside the logs except the message that the cookie is not valid or cannot be found. The mentioned setting is also enabled.
The issue appeared after updating to PAfE 2.0.69. With older versions everything worked as expected. As for the AntiVirus: This seems highly unlikely as everything works as long as an IE window is open in the background. This indicates to me that somehow the cookie cache is not persisted when all IE windows close.

Have you had a look at the logs in PAX, should be located here
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Cognos\Office Connection\Logs
Should hopefully give some more information. Also what version of excel does the user have?
If it's office 365 I'd also check that "Optimise for Compatibility" is set, you can find this within Excel option under General. (If it isn't set, set it and see if the issue still occurs)
Has this issue always happened? If not go through what may have changed. Perhaps an update to PAX. Perhaps the anti-virus is going haywire, with all the patches going on with log4j at the moment, it would surprise me if this hasn't been updated recently. I've even seen a company's anti-virus deleting the .xll file for PAX because it thought it was a rogue file.
