Ah thank you.
Probably best to make a case with IBM support for your specific circumstances, I'm not aware of any currently open defects in this area.

Dear Ted,
Appreciate your reply.
I am aware of the feature and have the option "Writeback Mode" activated.
Unfortunately, the erratic behaviour is not solved with that...

Quick comment from me,
In more recent versions that the ones originally associated with this thread from back when, PA for Excel now offers even more refined control on the type-over (& paste) formula handling. Please check out the writeback/as-values button on the ribbon.

Let us know if that proves relevant to your concern.

Hi,
I am experiencing the same issues.
Have you logged an APAR or received any other news regarding this issue?
Thanks in advance,

Thanks Ted,
I think my expectations are largely aligned with the above and may be limited to the paste special.
Ideally if a user had workings in another book and copied those into the report, they would probably want the values to be sent whether or not what they pasting is static values or formula based.
In design mode, I would have expected formulas to be over-written, normal mode, values sent irrespective of the type of source or the type of paste function.
I will probably log an APAR for this as you suggested. Thanks again.

Hi All,
Still reading through George's details here, but for formula-based reports the expectation should be that in 'normal' mode, pasting static (literal) values would be treated as writeback, and pasting formulas should replace the formulas. 'Design' mode essentially disables type-over writeback in this case (allowing you to make structural edits to the workbook).
For 'paste as value' specifically, there is some nuance that we'd likely need to explore further.
It is desirable to request an APAR to continue.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for reading and responding. Think for most it will be TL:DR
1) Copy and pasting non formula static cells like my first row of 1,2 ,3 etc. and pasting with Ctrl+V typically works. I did have an instance after a rebuild where it behaved the same as pasting values with formulas but did not replicate again.
2) Paste Special Value from a static or formula based cell to one cell in the report seems to work consistently. I can see the value shown in the formula bar, it then disappears and the DBRW comes back.
Just had flash-backs of dragging a cell to move it and having the values disappear-you may remember this fondly where you had to cut and paste.

Hi George,
Appreciate the detail in your explanation. This seems like a defect that should be logged with IBM.
I'm curious to know what happens in the following two cases.
1) Copy and paste from non formula static cell values
2) Paste Special Value on an individual cell
Thanks, Matt

Subject: PAfE DBRWs overwritten on pasting of values
Hi, Curious to see if anyone else is experiencing the same issue or having the same problem with DBRW formulas being overwritten in dynamic reports when copying and pasting.
I am trying to mimic how some users will be sending data to TM1 based on their own workings that they may have in various workbooks. Typically they would copy and paste into the template.
The image below shows a very simple dynamic report with a few products on rows and months on the columns with a full year on the end. Formulas are straight DBRW's no other functions, nesting etc. PAfE is 2.0.59, TM1 11.8.100.13
The row with static is simply numbers 1 through 8. The row below has formulas referencing the cell above e.g. =J13.
If I copy and paste the static numbers into the report, I get what is shown against # Product, in the above.
If I copy and paste the formula based numbers into the report, the formulas are pasted into the report overwriting the DBRWs and thus referencing the cell above, per yellow highlights below.
Design Mode is not enabled - have toggled and re-tested a few times to be sure. Working with Automatic Calculation enabled, Custom Report - Refresh data on writeback = None.
If I delete all rows except the first and rebuild, like the recreate, and repeat the same test by copying the formula based row but paste as values, I generally have the DBRW's disappear, 1 or more may be retained, at least one but sometimes more, never all. The graphic below show Dec onwards as missing. Note that the value in FY is 36. Generally, it appears like the values were sent to TM1 and are in the cube, but not always.
If I recreate the book, the DBRW's are regenerated from the top row as expected and the values appear expected.
If I paste the formulas as values again, I get the same behaviour albeit with different cells missing formulas.
This behaviour is a bit erratic but is reproducible on my side after a Rebuild Sheet.
- Start with your template i.e. only the TM1RPTRow row, delete any previous rows from the data range that may be in your report.
- Click the Rebuild Sheet icon to generate all rows.
- Copy values that are formula based, could be from another workbook, sheet or any rows with values in the report you just refreshed.
- Copy and paste as values into a row within your report, not row 1 preferably.
- You should see the behaviour I am if you are able to replicate.
Keen to hear if anyone else is having this issue, has seen it or can reproduce. If so, will log as a defect via APAR.
Thank you.
