Ah ha... so everything had been running smoothly since we did that 'reset' of settings. Today everything was fine... I realized I hadn't changed "measurement system" back to POINTS like I had before... I did that... and now I can't double click on things to open again. Can you change your measurement system to Points and see if you can replicate my issue? I changed back to Inches and it did NOT fix the problem... so may need to do the trick from before and reset all my settings again.

The registry delete worked! So at least we know it was associated with something in SPSS somewhere... lol Thanks so much for your help!

I'm sure you aren't alone.
I have a feeling that a reinstall may well be in order, but before that, I would like to try and delete a registry key.
Warning: This is like bringing SPSS back to "factory defaults." Recently used lists will be gone, other changes you made to fonts or options will be reset, etc. So, if you don't want to do this, I understand.
First, make sure SPSS is closed. Then, in a command window, run this:
reg delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\com\ibm\/S/P/S/S\/Statistics /f
Re-start SPSS. It may ask you to apply your existing license, so do that.
That may fix it, if it was some kind of setting causing the issue.

Oh, that's a neat tool... didn't see much anomalous in the stats.com output. This was only 'error' that seemed to pop:
Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NullPointerException
I imported some data and then tried to 'unhide' the Log in output window (I have it hidden by default) for that stats.com test. Double click still didn't work to unhide it.
Tried Workbook mode, no avail. Switched back, still doesn't work. Can you try, if you haven't yet, switching to workbook mode and back and see if that helps to replicate the issue? That IS something I had done when setting this up, so maybe something got out of whack. I'm pretty sure I could double-click when I first installed a couple weeks ago. Guess I could try an uninstall and reinstall...
I'll also look at those patches. Thanks for your work on this. Feel like I'm the only person this has happened to, which is never a good place to be! LOL

So far, I cannot replicate this, but I will try on other machines. In the meantime, there have been some fixes made public since August; you can find them here. Perhaps one of them will indirectly fix this issue; strange things like that have happened before.
Let's try one more thing. In a command window, go the directory where SPSS is installed. By default, that is "C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS Statistics".
Start SPSS from that command window by running stats.com.
Now, do what you've been doing; run some analyses and then double-click in the tree in the output viewer. I am hoping that when it fails, SPSS will print out an exception that will give us a clue what might be happening, or failing to happen. Try it in workbook mode, too. Perhaps something will fire or misfire there, as well that give us an idea.
Thanks and sorry for all the trouble.

In the tree view, I can double-click on 'Output' at the top or 'Custom Tables' to show or collapse whatever is below it. But when I double-click on any of the sub-items (Title, Notes, Tables), nothing happens. Here is my version info:

Open a syntax window, run this command, and let me know what it returns:
SHOW VERSION.

For me, In the tree view (the left-hand side panel), double-clicking does not hide or unhide the object. Nothing happens.

I have installed v29 on a Win11 machine.
In the tree view (the left-hand side panel), double-clicking hides or unhides the object; on the right-hand side, the same action activates and opens the object for editing.
The only way I've seen to open an object from the tree is to select the object, then press <Alt+e>,<e>,<e>,<Enter>. Inconvenient, but "e" is apparently overloaded with actions on that menu.

I'm more talking about the outline on the left in the output window... Where I should be able to click those to hide or unhide them. I'm on Windows 10, SPSS 29. Just been using it for a couple weeks. I do have to right-click on the actual table and click 'edit' to open that too. But double-clicking works in other applications and such... just weirdly not in most of SPSS.

I'm not sure what's happening there. When I click on a pivot table, as the tooltip says, I can double-click it and it opens. I can also press <Enter> and it opens. You can also right-click and, in that context menu, select "Edit".

Are you on Mac or Windows? And which version of SPSS are you running?

When I have an output file open, I am unable to open or close items (title, notes, table) by clicking or double-clicking. Have I set some option wrong somewhere? I've looked in the Options... Viewer area but that just seems to have their open/close default status. Any thoughts? Thanks!
