I am currently having challenges with our Oracle19c database running on IBM AIX7.2 TL5. I would like to know what parameters that need to be tuned to ensure we have good performance.

We are using GPFS (Spectrum Scale) as the file systems also. Are there GPFS parameters that need to be tuned for a file system of 20TB in size.

Hi Olawole,

My recommendation is that open a Support case to IBM & ask via that guidance from IBM Montpellier Oracle team (Francois Martin & co) ; They do this (Oracle tuning on Power)  for their daily work and are extremely best in their class.

They can provide you with Best Practises tuning guide (AIX, HW, kernel, Oracle db etc) + also most probably can guide you to some GPFS /Spectrum Scale expert who can say about tuning that part on Oracle usage too..

(GPFS requires "slightly" different tuning depending on the workload which U R running on top of that..)

You can also reach out to your local System seller and local Lab services team that can help you as well? 

Are you based in the USA?

If you run on an Enterprise Power server (e.g. 950, 980 or 1050, 1080) you might have still some Expert assist Unit (ex Cloud points) to be used to do such an analysis.

Having AWR of Oracle (need Oracle diagnostic pack), it is possible to find all the TOP 5 and figure out where exactly the issue is and well as several hints on the SQL statements. Combine with NMOM you will have several hints where exactly issues.
