I have submitted an enhancement request for this. Looking at the web it feels like it's been a thorn in our sides for far too long. Please vote for this one!

Hi Philipp,
I explicitly tested the new prompt page as well. Of course, when you define a default value (static, by data) this value is selected and the check box next to the prompt is also activated. I don't see any way (except java script/custom controls) to deactivate the check box by default when the prompt is optional.

Hi Robert, Is this even the case if you make usage of the new prompt defaults?

Hi Marc,
just checked with my CA 12 installation: nope! The behaviour is still the same, unfortunately. Even when your try to trick the prompt by setting a faulty default value, it still selects the current date as default. Nerve wrecking. One of the reasons why I use cascading dropdown prompts for dates...

In a report an optional date prompt looks like this:

By default the tick box is checked and today's date is selected. The tick box is used to show if the prompt is/isnt used. As the prompt is optional, if the user wants no date filter they have to uncheck this tick box. Contrast that with every other prompt - optional prompts can easily be left blank by the report author.
For the user of such a report they will find most optional prompts blank, but they have to go through and uncheck the date prompts. If they don't, then the report will be filtered to today's data.
Even the date range prompt does this better. When a date range prompt is optional then early and late date are selected by default - all data.
Questions:
- Does anyone know how to make an optional date range prompt unpopulated by default?
- Does CA 12 do this type of prompt any better?
