Hi Prem! I was wondering if you found a solution? It seems like usually do. Are you still in need of help?

    Hello Tegan,

    Happy New year,

sorry for the late reply I was engaged somewhere else, I have seen, searched multiple articles and blogs didn't find anywhere where it is clearly written NTFS permission will not restore in that case what is the use of backup in my case also few folder permission is restoring at the time of restoration and few are not. I am badly stuck on this issue.

    Thanks

Hi Prem,  From what we have witnessed, this is actually behavior that is native to the NTFS and not a problem with TSM.  This behavior is also an issue when restoring from a Windows Backup file.  Your answer will likely be found if you direct your internet searches to Windows forums for the answer.  I also understand that this behavior is also trying to restore files to a Share where the most restrictive security is inherited from the share level after the restore.  Sorry that I'm not more help.

    Thank You.

    Hey Gary,

Thank you for your input glad you have have shared your experience, I am confused on one point only, I have one IBM SAN Storage from that I have assigned one LUN to TSM server and shared over network where permission are not inheriting and highly complex NTFS permission is assigned that is also backing up, and when i tried to restore the backup all the NTFS permission is restoring as assigned before the backup or you can say actual permission, at the same time in NAS case it is not, here I am confused.

    Thanks

    Hi Prem,
I'm sorry but I'm not sure I understand your problem description. I'll
rephrase what you describe and see if I understand your problem. You have
a LUN assigned to a client that is a network Share provisioned on an IBM
SAN(StorageAreaNetwork). This LUN is being backed up to your TSM server
with complex NTFS permissions without inheritence and the restore of that
LUN including all the NTFS permissions are restoring successfully to the
SAN share. You have a similar LUN that is also a network share attached
to another system provisioned using a NAS(NetworkAttachedStorage) also
being backed up by TSM but the NTFS permissions are not restoring with the
    data on the NAS share.

Have I described your issue correctly?

    Hello Gary,

Thanks for the response I will rephrase it in a easy way. First part is correct I have assign a LUN from IBM SAN to Windows Server which I have backed up from TSM where permissions are not inheriting and folder and sub-folders wise different permission applied and while restoring it's restoring at the time it is backed up. Second I don't have LUN I have a EMC NAS which I am backing up but not via NDMP, I have created a batch file where there (NAS Server) ip's SMB path is written like \\10.20.30.40\C$ which also i am backing up at the time of backup it complete with no issue although it takes so much time because backup is directly going into tape over LAN. but at the time of restoration it doesn't restore the NTFS permission which was assigned to folder/subfolder at the time of backup or before backup.

    Thanks

    Prem
