  • 1.  Non root installation and Solaris pkgadd

    Posted Mon April 26, 2004 08:10 PM

    Hi All,

Is it possible to install Tamino 4.X as Non root user or without Sudo user. i.e any normal user on the system.

Has anyone tried to install Tamino 4.X using the pkgadd command after packaging with solaris package specifications.

    Thanks,
    Naga

    Hello Naga

Let me answer your two questions:

1.) The Tamino installation needs a root user or the Sudo user. There is now possibility to omit this.

2.) We are not supporting the pkgadd standard since we have our own packaging.

    kind regards
    Eric

    Hi Eric,

Thank you very much for your response.

In answering to my first question, did you mean to say “There is now a possibility to omit this and install as a normal user” or “There is no possibility to omit this”

It is difficult for us to install Tamino on a shared server used by other application. As we may not be able to get sudo or root permissions on a shared server. To train a System Admin to do the installation is not an option.

We can only package the software with Solaris package specs and provide the parameters to be passed during the pkgadd to the System Admin.

    Thanks,
    Naga

    Sorry Naga,
It is right what you mentioned
    The following was wrong:
“1.) The Tamino installation needs a root user or the Sudo user. There is now possibility to omit this.

I meant (now it is correct):
1.) The Tamino installation needs a root user or the Sudo user. There is NOT possibility to omit this.

You need to have thes admin root rights due to our internal products delivered with Tamino … Means you cannot omit this step, sorry.

    kind regards
    Eric
