    Thanks in advance

I would recommend to use RRDtool for anything related to monitoring for the simple fact of flexibility you can get and the finite space requirement. I have done some work some time back using rrdtool and in this particular case I used RRDtool passvively, and not directly from the AIX lpars (have a look at how rrdtool can be used using inetd).

I wrote the following article couple of years back http://wiki.babytux.org/wiki/doku.php?id=article-rrdtool ,and that was quite fun.

But lately I used lpar2rrd, which is amazingly simple to setup, as long as you have a spare LPAR with apache with perl support. But I have tried lpar2rrd on a Intel Linux box which was working perfectly.

Word of caution: you might need to uprgrade your HMC to 7.3.4+ if you want to use lpar2rrd. Earlier versions of HMCs does not handle clearing the perf details very well... so eventually your HMC will hang.
