    If your tapes use FC then you can monitor them.
    I hear from customers that most separate tape and disks to different FC adapters. If this is the case, you can clearly see the tape drives using this method.

    In email you have also found the FAQ for nmon, where it points out adapter stats are really only the disk stats added up and don't include tape stats as they are note available.

    I also hear that in the very latest AIX releases there are now some tape stats for ATAPE devices - not actually found a working example yet!
