  • 1.  niminit fails to register, "NIMkid: Request denied - Missing data in packet" error on the server

    Hello,

    I have a strange problem with registering some VIOSes to NIM. On the VIOS side an error comes almost immediately:

    # niminit -a master=nim -a name=aixvio40 -v -a restart_nimsh=yes -a pif_name=en4 -c

niminit
Testing if we can access the Master @ nim
Establishing contact with NIM master
0042-006 niminit: (init to master) rcmd A file or directory in the path name does not exist

    .

    And alog on the NIM server shows:

    <Tue Oct 14 10:14:29 CEST 2025> <master> <25559504> <0042-008 NIMkid: Request denied - Missing data in packet>

    Other VIOSes with same software levels and configs register without problems. Any ideas, what causes the problem?

    For the record, updating bos.sysmgt.nim.client solved the problem.

    Hello

    1. make sure if nimsh is running on your VIO server with "grep -i nim_shell /etc/niminfo"

    2. check that nimsh demon status at both master and client is operative if not then start it "lssrc -s nimsh".

    3. make sure your vio server is defined in the /etc/hosts file.

    if everything is active then delete /etc/niminfo file and register your VIO server again.
