  • 1.  Nimadm fails

    Posted yesterday
    Dear all,
I am trying to migrate the AIX OS using nimadm, but the process fails. If I omit the -j vgname flag, the migration gets stuck at phase 5 with no response(even I didn't any error also). However, if I use the -j flag, nimadm fails at phase 9 and I receive the following error. Please do the needful.
    Expanding /alt_inst/usr/sys/inst.images client filesystem.
0516-404 allocp: This system cannot fulfill the allocation request.
There are not enough free partitions or not enough physical volumes
to keep strictness and satisfy allocation requests.  The command
should be retried with different allocation characteristics.
0505-160 nimadm: Error expanding remote filesystem.
0505-213 nimadm: ATTENTION, resize_client_fs() returned an unexpected result.
0505-217 nimadm: Error syncing cache data to client.
Cleaning up alt_disk_migration on the NIM master.

    Hello Vivek,

Some of the commands getting processed in phase 5 take time to complete. You won't see any progress message for a few commands. For how long did you find the process getting stuck?

With -j flag, the error message indicates there is not enough physical partitions (free space) available in the altinst_rootvg of client to expand the /alt_inst/usr/sys/inst.images FS. You might need to check the target hdisk size and if needed, specify multiple hdisks as target.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Amarjit
