Need to learn COBOL

    Hello!

    I am new to these forums and need help with some questions. I'm a government employee with the IRS and I'm interested in learning COBOL to apply for a job. These jobs are still available and NEEDED so I would like to try and qualify. Where do you need to start on this site to get the skills? Thanks,

    Hi Daris

    IBM Raleigh Development Lab is hosting a 12week entry level z/OS COBOL Curriculum beginning in June.
    You can enrole by sending an email  to Jonathan Sayles at   jsayles@us.ibm.com

    An overview  is included below with a tentative agenda attached.
    A few details:
    • This is no-charge remote instructor-led training
    • 24 one-hour modules (2 per week) spread out over 12 weeks - delivered via Webex
    • The first class will be Tuesday June 9th - at 9:00 AM Eastern
    • All sessions will be recorded
    • With a one-hour additional session per week called "Office Hours" - where users can get 1X1 help with the labs
    • This is not an introduction - nor is it high-level. My intent is to prepare attendees to compete for COBOL jobs
    • Anyone can participate in the classes (there are no pre-reqs)
    • But there are hands-on workshops associated with all of the modules - and if one of your customer's users want access to zserveros she/he must register:
    • I'll need name and eMail of attendee
    • I have a fixed numbers TSO IDs that I can use - registration will be first-come/first-served
    • However, if your customers are interested in hosting the hands-on portion of class on their mainframe system
    • I'll send the files with setup instructions
    • And customers will be responsible for TSO ID admin, etc.

    In our company we have hired new graduates and I think this could be very helpful and not only for them.
    Is it opened to anybody (off course first-come/first served)?
