I have a MacBook Pro which I use SPSS on. I use SPSS for university, back on the Catalina software it worked fine and I was able to use it. But ever since I installed their latest software (Big Sur 11.0.1) it won't run. It downloads fine, but it will not open up (for me to put it into applications/open for me to use it), coming up with two pop-up boxes. I tried to sort this out with the technician at university, and they were stumped, I also tried to sort this out with an Apple Advisor and they think the problem is with SPSS itself. It says “libjvm.dylib” cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified, before continuing: “MacOS cannot verify this app is free from malware”. Everytime I click “move to bin” it will not remove itself, and every time I click ‘cancel’ the pop-up box continues to pop up.

It also mentioned something about checking the iCloud pane, and I did, but there wasn’t any issues on that front. I really need this to be sorted out ASAP as it's been ongoing for a while and I don't know how to fix it as well as the fact I need it for university.

I'm having this problem as well. I'm trying to redownload SPSS 26 on my new MacBook Air running Big Sur using my university installer, and I'm getting the libjvm.dylib error. I'm in contact with my university IT but so far no luck. It sounds like it might an issue with the Mac OS?

No, there hasn't been a resolution yet. I'm still waiting, unfortunately.

That's the thing, I contacted my university IT as well, and they had no clue themselves despite trying to fix it with no such luck. I also contacted Apple and they tried to fix it as well, but no luck either. They think it's to do with SPSS compatibility to Big Sur.. so I'm at a cross-roads because I have no idea.

So it looks like this same issue occurred with Catalina. There was a solution, but it doesn't work with Big Sur (I tried it). I think we might just have to wait until IBM releases a new fix?

You try uninstalling Big Sur and reinstalling Catalina, I don't think this will work for me since Catalina was never on my machine but if you need SPSS bad enough it should work. At least until IBM fixes the issue with Big Sur.

My uni sent me a new link they got from IBM. I installed it but was still having issues. I did some searching and there is a patch on the IBM website for SPSS on Big Sur. I installed that and its working fine now.

If anyone is still encountering an issue, IBM has released Fix Pack 2 for SPSS v26 on Mac. This Fix Pack includes the SPSS installer file needed to install SPSS v26 on Big Sur. The reason for the problem is that the Python 2 and Python 3 bundles included in the original installer aren't compatible with Big Sur so they needed to be rebundled in Fix Pack 2. I would reach out to your organization and have them provide you with the SPSS version 26.0.0.2 Fix Pack file. Once you run that you should be all set with nothing more to do.

to solve the error issue that doesn't let you install the software:

it works on my mac, big sur and SPSS statistic 26 downloaded from the university link.

open the dmg file and extract what is inside.

drag on desktop the installer file SPSS_Statistics_Installer

open terminal

write sudo bash and click enter

write xattr -cd and then without any space drag inside terminal the previously dragged on desktop SPSS_Statistics_Installer icon

enter, put password and then you should be able to install it

Hi, I'm currently struggling with the same problem and have tried this however the terminal doesn't give me access to enter a password and probably because I don't add one when I press terminate nothing changes. Can someone help me with this, pleaseee

Hey, for you or anyone else reading this I seemed to have figured out maybe the greatest hacks of all hacks. I was having issue using the terminal code as well, My laptop is a 2015 MacBook Pro for reference, but I am running Big Sur. Anyways, once you download the installer dmg just copy it over to an external drive. From the external drive you can then run the installer and then download the actual application file back into your laptop's disk drive. It worked for me, hopefully it works for you.

I think I figured it out after 2 hours of struggles.

I have a macbook pro 2015 running Big Sur 11.2.3.

I already had SPSS 26 installed but it was no longer working since I updated to Big Sur. So, here are the steps I followed:

I uninstalled it (only do this if you have a serial number for the software... my university provided me with one).

Then I went here to get the Fix Pack 2 from IBM (it's free):

[the file to download is called "fix pack: 26.0-IM-S26STATC-Mac-FP002"].

It initially wouldn't let me download it but said they would email me and about half an hour later I received an automated email and then when I went back to the fix centre, it was working and I managed to download the fix pack.

It took some time to install because I needed to update java as well as download an IBM download director. Felt like the year 2000. But persevere!

Once you've downloaded it, install the Fix Pack 2 by right clicking and selecting "open" (seems obvious but it makes a difference). This will reinstall SPSS 26.

You should be able to run the programme and then insert your serial number and hopefully it will work!

MacOS refused this command.

Running it as:

xattr -c [file path]

xattr -d [file path]

Allows installation though.

Hi, I downloaded the fix pack, but I couldnt seem to redownload SPSS, I keep getting the same error about iCloud Drive and not being able to find the location of SPSS. How did you fix this? I have an exam in SPSS tomorrow and this is driving me insane!

Having the same problem. Trying to install on BigSur 11.4 and I keep getting this message “libjvm.dylib” cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified. The problem is I have to restart the laptop to get rid of that box otherwise it keeps popping up on my screen!
