A great summary especially around the self-reinforcing feedback loop.
I agree that some of the tools are great products but talking to clients, they don't see such a gap between Cognos Analytics and other tools especially when the full capabilities of Cognos Analytics are discussed and demonstrated.
I also think there is a big perception issue around Cognos Analytics and your comments around existing clients seem to agree; the product has moved on massively but some clients haven't moved with it !
