  • 1.  My mac cannot compute a Fishers exact test

    When I try to do a fishers exact test on SPSS version 27 it says that it

    "cannot be computed because unable to open temporary file"

You also have a license for EXACT TESTS add on module. For example you create below crosstab for sample file Bankloan.sav: CROSSTABS /TABLES=ed BY default /FORMAT=AVALUE TABLES /STATISTICS=CHISQ /CELLS=COUNT /COUNT ROUND CELL /METHOD=EXACT TIMER(5). You notice that a value for Fisher-Freeman-Halton Exact test is not computed on ChiSquare Test table. Instead you get a footnote "b. Cannot be computed because unable to open temporary file" . When you run the same Crosstab for Bankloan.sav on a Windows 10 computer with SPSS 27 you do not het this footnote. On Windows you get a with a value of 11.620 and a significance level of .017 for the Fisher-Freeman-Halton Exact test.
    Local fixThis was reported to IBM SPSS Development and is expected to be addressed in a future release or fixpack. An Interim Fix was developed for customers who need the fix prior to the next upcoming Fix Pack. It is published as public Interim Fix 007 for IBM SPSS Statistics 27 GA release on IBM Fixcentral.     If you cannot access the direct link you first need to register for an IBM ID. You can also go directly to IBM FixCentral

    https://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/

    Then select Product SPSS Statistics,

    Version 27.0.0.0

    Operating system: Mac

    On next page select browse for fixes and from the list you should find 27.0-IM-S27STATS-ALL-IF007

    For download you need to register for an IBM ID
