I am trying to define a set of multiple responses.

What I did, following several tutorials:

Analyze --> Multiple Response --> Define Variable Sets.

Unfortunately, the list shows only 8 out of my 55 variables - the variables that I must define as a variable set would not be listed.

If i define my set following the path Data --> Multiple Response Set, i do succeed in defining the variable set, nevertheless, it is not of any use since i cannot use the defined set for frequencies and crosstabs analysis.

I´d be super happy if anyone could help :)

It's hard to tell what is happening without more details, but for starters

• there are two types of mr sets in Statistics. The Analyze > Multiple Response dialog defines sets that can only be used with the other procedures on that menu.
• The recommended mr set facility is via Analyze > Tables > Multiple Response Sets. These sets, which can be saved with the data, are for use with Custom Tables (Analyze > Tables > Custom Tables and with the Chart Builder
• MR sets can be multiple dichotomies or multiple categories. The type you choose depends on how the data are structured.

You are right - i am absolutely a starter :D

I am very sure, your mentioned details will be of help once i am further down the road of analyzing my data.

For now, i came to the conclusion that my problem lies in the "type" of most of my variables. Although i have properly coded and labeled my data that i received from a google forms survey, the variable types where still imported to SPSS as string and not numeric. I guess i will adjust the type for each variable from string to numeric manually, and then i will be able to define variable sets with all my multi response variables.

Whether the variables are strings or numeric does not matter if you use CTABLES to process multiple response data. IIRC, the older multiple response procedure does not handle strings. So take a look at CTABLES.
