Managment console is a tool used for systems that are already set up. You can stop and start them via the tool, but you can also do it through the command line, though they differ. On the command line, it fully stops and starts the launcher/event server. Though managment console, I guess it's more of a "warm boot", where, if you made changes to a map in an existing system and stopped/started, it would take effect, but if you added a map to an existing system, it would not add it, and you would have to stop/start from the command line to bring it all the way down and back up to take the addition.

All set up of systems are done through the event server/launcher admin on the deployment box.

Um...you do?

Maybe you mean in 8.2+?

I can configure everything through event server/ launcher admin, pointing to the config, setting the mrc/mrn if that's needed, adding it to auto start, and start it. I don't believe you can get the monitoring functionality without the managment console, and I'm using 7.5, and I know in 8.1+, there are more debug tools, but I think it is possible to do.

I'm not sure what you mean. Both in Unix (Unices ?) and Windows, you can use the multi process functionality using a single install. I agree on the point that Unix will allow you to install several Launchers separately, which is another way but would create an overhead (this is what we did in pre-7.5 versions, but it's no longer mandatory). I'm not competent on Windows, I only know Mercator quickly stpopped supporting the Windows multiple install version at the old 652 days.

Mamost :

If you want to have several processes, this is usually (version >= 7.5) done using the graphical LauncherAdmin tool. I know some people have been able to hack the Java classes to do the same in a non-graphical (text-based interface), but you still ned a LauncherAdmin.bin file to set this up. There is no "direct" way of doing this, since the file is a binary one.
