  • 1.  MREF Installation and Demo Data in MAS9.1

    Posted 08/22/25 11:51 AM

    Hi All,

I need to install MREF and setup some test data on that. and I will be doing this for the 1st time.

Has anyone done installation of MREF on MAS 9.1? Any challenges there?

How the OCP infra should be calculated? MAS Sizing calculator currently doesn't include MREF application. IBM is yet to release new MAS calculator for 9.1.

How the test /demo data can be created in MREF? Is it available anywhere?

    If anything, else, please advise.

    Thanks in Advance.

I installed MREF 9.1 on an IBM cloud cluster and the process was pretty straight forward - the only step I tripped up on was the user as the documentation was not as clear as it should be e.g. the creation of the user FACILITIESADMIN which has to be exactly this username.

As for demo data I am not sure if you will be able to access this document on IBM Box but this has links to a step by step process and link to a backup demo database. I followed the second part of this process in that I installed MREF first and then restored this back up database.

If you cannot access this link then please reach out and will try and get the file to you some other way:

    Hi Steve,

    Thank you for your response.

I am unable to access that link. Could you please provide any alternative way to share those files?

    Hi Ritesh,

I came across your earlier post regarding the MREF installation on MAS 9.1 and assume you might have completed the setup by now.

I'm currently planning a similar installation and wanted to understand your experience - particularly around the OCP infrastructure sizing, costing aspects, and any challenges you faced during the setup.

Also, has IBM released an updated MAS sizing calculator that includes MREF since your initial post? If so, could you please share the link or any related references?

Additionally, I'd like to know if the MREF installers are now available and where they can be accessed, along with any guidance you might have for setting up test/demo data.

Appreciate your time and insights on this.

    Thanks in Advance.

Hi, some information that might help:

The sizing calculator for MREF 9.1 is now available here:

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/masv-and-l/cd?topic=premises-requirements-capacity-planning

Information about Deploying MREF in MAS is here, there are no longer platform installers, the MREF platform operator is installed in OpenShift.

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/masv-and-l/cd?topic=a-maximo-real-estate-facilities

Information about migrating from TRIRIGA to MREF is here.

    Hi Paraic,

Thank you for sharing the information.

I just had a couple of questions:

    1. Before installing MREF, we first need to install MAS, right? For that, do we need separate installers, or can we use the scripts provided by IBM - such as Ansible playbooks, AWS CloudFormation templates, or CLI-based installations?

    2. Have you tried installing this setup on Red Hat OpenShift in AWS, or did you use a different cloud platform? I'd like to understand your experience with the MAS and MREF installation process.

If you encountered any challenges during the installation, it would be really helpful if you could share your insights or recommendations.

    Kind Regards,

    Hi,

    Glad to help,

    1. MREF is now an application in MAS so yes, you must install MAS, and then deploy MREF. MAS can be installed in a number of supported environments, for more information see:

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/masv-and-l/cd?topic=planning

    2. I've not personally installed MAS, just passing on where you can find some information to help.
