    Hi Everyone
Request your help to point me to documentation or training available regarding Model Metric.
Looking for a step by step guide with examples to create and configure a model type metric in an existing model.
    Thank You

    Hello @Bala Meher Bolisetti

There's certainly available material with Apptio University, maybe @Lauren Pagan or @Jenny Goodwin can help.

You can also try this article (link) of my series.

Maybe you can be a bit more specific.

    Would you want to:

    • Create a new model metric (then the blog post might help)
    • Configure a new or existing allocation line for one of the metrics (e.g. Cost or Budget)?
    • ...

With that input, I might be able to give you an example.

    Hello @Guillermo Cuadrado

Thank you for your response and sharing links / contacts. It is helpful.

Let me explain what I am trying to do in detail...

As you know 'Cost' is the default model metric which is linked to all objects and allocations in Apptio.

Using Cost metric we are able to pull the total for App TCO, Site TCO...etc into required reports.

Application cost is made up of different components / objects like Vendor Cost, Labor Cost, Depreciation Cost...etc which add up to make the total App TCO.

What I would like to do is create a separate model metric for each component making up the total application cost (App TCO)...so a separate 'Application Vendor Cost' model metric to be configured (running through the model) which will show the Vendor Cost seperately...similarly a separate 'Application Labor Cost' model metric and so on...

Ultimately adding up these individual model metrics should be equal to the Total App TCO

Hope that makes sense. Appreciate any documentation / training which can help me with this activity.

    Hello Bala!

I'm so glad to see that you are resourcing the Apptio Community for configuration inspiration.

Thank you, @Guillermo Cuadrado, for your timely and valuable guidance!

To provide some of the basic understandings necessary for the assimilation of guidance you may receive from Guillermo or your Customer Success Manager, I will site a few key references regarding Modeling in TBM Studio.

1.) Overall Preface to Modeling in TBM Studio: About Model Studio | This is essential to read as there are certain terminologies that are foundational for understanding how to create a Metric that meets the intent.

2.) Create a Metric | Basic instructions for creating the new Modeled Metric

3.) Add a Unit Driver to a Modeled Table | This would be the part that essentially generates the Cost Pool/IT Resource Tower-specific Cost Metric you are creating.

Also, I would be doing you an injustice if I did not point out the Default Cost Transparency reports which already separate the TCO into the categories you have mentioned. A comprehensive overview of each of these reports can be found in the Apptio Help Center under the product Cost Transparency.

Here are just a few of them:

    Labor Report Collection

    Vendors Report Collection

    Applications Report Collection

I hope this is helpful and look forward to the wisdom that @Guillermo Cuadrado will be sharing with us!

    Hello @George _

Thank you very much for the reference material. This is very useful.

Aware of the Default CT reports and I am looking to create a more granular / detailed report using model metrics.

Truly appreciate your time and inputs!
