I run mksysb -i /mnt/my_system_name.mksysb . . . . . and it just sits there and does nothing.

If I run smitty mksysb and enter the equivalent parameters it runs.

Any reason why mksysb works from smitty but not from ksh?

When I run a mksysb like you from command line vs. smitty (btw both work for me), I noticed smitty adds -A flag, when I pick the defaults. Do shift+F6 to see the command. And, heres some links with more info;

The only difference is that on the servers where it DOESN'T work from the CLI I su - in as root as root is restricted from logging on at a terminal.

On my NIM server root login as permitted.
