Mixed Models - Optimizing Convergence

  • 1.  Mixed Models - Optimizing Convergence

    Dear SPSS Community,

I am learning multi-level mixed modeling in SPSS for a cross-sectional-repeated-measures design that includes 76 participants, each measured physiologically in 12 different virtual reality scenes -- 12 treatments viewed consecutively in a different order by each participant in one session.  As I learn mixed model syntax with /RANDOM and /REPEATED subcommands with various covariance structures, many do not converge.  Is there a tutorial or set of procedures that can improve convergence?  Also, I am reassessing my computer setup.  I currently access SPSS 29 from servers at my university.  I have a fairly powerful computer (Intel i9) at home, and wonder if downloading SPSS 29 onto my machine would improve convergence.  I also have a high-end GPU with 12 GB internal memory.  Does SPSS access this extra power?  If so, which version of SPSS 29 do I need to handle MIXED, GENLINMIXED, and such things as Likelihood Ratio Tests and ICC?
