  • 1.  Migration from YUM to DNF questions

    Posted Mon October 02, 2023 11:37 AM

    Hello,

    We are working on AIX partitions.

    Today we have a NIM Master partition where YUM is installed. This our YUM Master partition.

    The YUM Master repositories are updated directly from the official IBM site.

    Then we have YUM "client" partitions. The YUM "client" partitions rpm packages are updated from the YUM Master repositories.

    ==> Everything is OK.

    Now we are preparing our migration from YUM to DNF on our NIM MASTER partition which is running under oslevel 7200-05-06-2320.

    Our YUM Master partition will become our DNF Master partition.

    We hope our "old" YUM "client" partitions will still be able to get updates from our very new DNF Master partition.

    This was question N°1.

    For your information, we are planning to migrate our "old" YUM "client" partitions to DNF later, in the coming months...

    Question N°2 :

    When our very new DNF Master partition will be ready to work, updates directly from the official IBM site will still be available ?

    We thank you very much for your help,

    Hi Christophe,

    Answer to question 1 --> yes the "yum clients" can still use the repositories from you "dnf master". The migration from YUM to DNF does not really change anything on the repositories that you are providing from the the master to your clients.

    Answer to question 2 --> The way/location from where the RPMs for the AIX Toolbox website are provided are the same regardless whether you are using YUM or DNF to install. So if you have a repository configured that points directly to the AIX Toolbox (see example below) there should be no change needed if you are migrating to DNF.

    [AIX_Toolbox]
    name=AIX generic repository

    enabled=1
