  • 1.  Migrating nodes from one cell to another

    Posted Thu January 19, 2017 09:25 AM

Hi everyone, I would like to know if you know about any whitepaper that explains how to migrate nodes that are already federated under a Webpshere cell to work under a different one. I have an environment with several cells and I would like to create a new dmgr and try to move some of the nodes that are part of several cells to work under the new one, as only one cell.

    Regards.

    Ruben ...

You may find this presentation helpful: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27020204  It describes the process of exporting configurations (including just one node) and importing them.  It's not a single step process, but the presentation walks through all the required steps.

Hi Ruben - In case you are still seeking a solution, there is an automated way to do this using Orcaconfig (assuming I understood you correctly).
Orca accelerates moving to new cells. It automatically captures the configurations of both cells – the old one and the new one – providing side by side comparisons of all the configurations, including the nodes. You can also use Orca to create new nodes, application servers, or any other configurations in your new WAS cell and quickly deploy your applications from one cell to the new one. Here is a page on the topic with an explainer video in it. (yep, I work there).

Also, there is a WebSphere Application Server white paper that I think will help you. Good luck.

    Ruben,

I don't know of a single source of information that will explain what you are trying to achieve. There are many options available to you. IBM has tools to do what you want. There are various 3rd-party tools to do what you want. A lot depends on how extensive your WebSphere configurations are and how your current WebSphere environments were created in the first place. Where I work, we use scripts to build our WAS environments. So to migrate our nodes, we would modify our existing scripts to achieve that. So I would explore a couple of options and see which one works for you.
