  • 1.  Migrating from Linux and TM1XFER

    Posted Tue July 08, 2025 04:03 PM

In the process of migrating from an on-prem implementation on Linux to the Planning Analytics on Cloud. Previously when going from Linux to Windows, I used tm1xfer to convert the files. However, IBM Support has just informed me that tm1xfer is not supported on the cloud and advised me to do the conversion process locally before transferring to the cloud. However, my data directory is quite large and I don't have a "spare" windows server to do this conversion on.

Reaching out to the community to see how others have migrated a Linux-based implementation up to the IBM PAoC environment.

    Thanks.

Not sure how much data you have in your cubes but the restapi/tm1py might be an option if your handy with some coding. I have built migration tools using tm1py for the purpose of moving objects without taking the server down.

Thanks, Robby. Far too big to do anything like that.

I'm doing some testing today as I've been informed that tm1xfer is really only necessary to go from Windows to Linux not the other way around. I think I can also run tm1xfer from the cloud if I have the exe and run it via ExecuteCommand in a TI process.

I'll circle back on this thread with results!

    HI Matthew,
What do you mean by "convert the files"?
The only time I have needed to do this was when migrating from Windows which had mixed case and conform all files to lower case then copy to Linux.
Going the other way round at least for file names should not pose any issue unless you have files that are different in Linux due to their case and would appear the same to a Windows environment.

In terms of moving the files you could likely then just zip, upload/SFTP into the PAoC environment then unzip.

Is there something I am missing in terms of the conversion process you are doing?

George - that's correct. I'm not sure there is really any conversion to be done other than converting to mixed case/camel case and some other character set items.

There are few other corner cases in the tm1xfer documentation that may come into play, but we'll see if it really impacts this implementation:
    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/planning-analytics/2.0.0?topic=tm1xfer-decompressing-directories

My plan is to first try a standard zip / unzip...if that poses any issues, I'll circle back and figure out a way to run tm1xfer on a cloud server.
