    Posted Wed December 07, 2022 11:23 AM
    Hello,
We are needing to upgrade our current cognos environment from 10.2.3 to 11.2.3. I would like some guidance on the steps to take on this. Seems like the support links you end up clicking on multiple links and end up with like a 100 tabs open. lol
    Verifying right download
    Backing up all data
    Installation steps, sql, etc
Installation directories - can cognos be installed in another location other than the C drive?
Can the sql database be located some place else?
    Licensing
    Restoring data

    Thanks!

    Hi,

A good place to start is on the IBM Cognos Analytics Upgrade Central page:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ibm-cognos-analytics-upgrade-central

The latest downloads are available in the Passport Advantage site:

    https://www.ibm.com/software/passportadvantage/pao_customer.html

As of today, the latest version available is 11.2.3, but 11.2.4 is due for release very soon.

The installation steps are detailed here:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/how-install-cognos-analytics-111x

You can install on whichever drive you wish - the installer will prompt you for the install location. Your content store database can be located anywhere you like, as long as the Cognos instance will have access to it in whichever location you put it.

Licensing should be the same, assuming you are still current with your S&S for Cognos.

I would take a full deployment archive from your old instance, then restore this in the new instance once it is up and running. Make sure you use the same authentication provider, configured in the same way, and all your security should remain intact in the new instance.

    Cheers!

    MF.
