    Hi,

I'm struggling to find out any documention/experience regarding the migration from Cognos Express to Cognos Analytics.

Is it supported? Is there any caveits you would like to share?

It is only for the reports/package side.

    Best regards,

    Hi Patrick,

The important question here is what version of Cognos Express (or Planning Analytics Express) you are looking to migrate from. If it's 10.2 or above, Express is just a licensing model, and the Cognos BI and TM1 (or Cognos Analytics and Planning Analytics) components are the exact same products as the regular non-express versions. There would be no migration to do - just trade up the licenses. If you're on a 10.x version it would definitely be worth upgrading to newer, supported versions of Cognos Analytics and Planning Analytics.

Prior to 10.2, Cognos Express was a custom download/install that was largely based on Cognos BI and TM1, but had some specific pieces unique to Express. These were largely things like the authentication provider and content store, and a specific utility to back up and restore. For the Cognos part of any migration, you'd need to deploy the content to a supported non-Express content store database, and you'd need a security migration to a supported non-Express authentication provider. The hardest part would be the security migration, I suspect. Again, upgrading to newer, supported versions of CA and PA would be highly recommended.

    Cheers!

    MF.
