Still we are not able to change Media speed from Auto to 100 Mbps for that physical server though the option is available in HMC. Is that possible using HMC also will there be any downtime ..Please let us know the procedure?

I dont understand that physical server? Once you LPAR the server means you can change the speed in that the LPAR servers only...

As per my knowlegde you cannot do anything that the base server...

But you can change the LPAR servers....

That is correct - the OS running the adapter sets the network speed.

You have to change network speed using the operating system allocated the device
    • for a stand-alone machine that is AIX or Linux running the whole machine
    • for a Virtual I/O Server with a physical adapter in a PCI slot, you log onto the VIOS
    • for a Logical Partition (LPAR) allocated a physical adapter in a PCI slot then its the OS in that LPAR
    • for a VIOS or LPAR using a virtual Ethernet there is no line speed for virtual Ethernet

    Hope this helps, Nigel
