We do have version control (with WinCVS) so we could confirm that the file wasn't changed from one day to the next. We suspected a corrupt .msd file and we created a new system file from scratch and this had the same outcome. We ended up resovling the problem by restoring all files on the server from a back up tape. Througout this occurence and our current problem, we have always been able to run each map in the system from the map designer successfully.

Our current problem is on our development environment which is running Windows 2000. We are getting ready to deploy a newly completed project when we encountered this problem. I have built an entirely new system from scratch and get the same outcome. I have searched archives for a similar problem and found that in one instance the directories referenced by the .msd file were not available. However, in this case, 2 of the 4 maps used by the system are in the same directory. One is found and the other one is not. Is there any other reference to maps that I am missing other than the Map Component setting and the Map Server Location?[/url]

What version of the ES are you using? Get the launcher.txt file and send it to support. Most common cause is a typo in the path to the map. Good idea is to have a common directory for all maps (on the server).

Thanks for your reply jsmoley. I did end up contacting support. The path for the map was correct and supports conclusion was that the system file became corrupted. They suggested that I export the map to xml, reimport the map from this xml file, rebuild system, and redeploy the sytsem. This did work.

This could explain the problems with the deployed MSL's & maps.
