Where would I be able to download this binary from? This is in AIX 4.3.

    Thanks in advance...

lslpp -w can be used to find the associated fileset and then you can either reinstall or overwrite this fileset with your AIX install media.

I have the original media, but am not very familiar with AIX. What command would I use to recover the binary from that package?

It won't let me uninstall the broken package because there are so many dependencies to it. And it won't let me force a reinstall because it's not considered a base fileset.

Could somebody just take the single "logger" file binary from a 4.3 /usr/bin directory for me and tar/gz it and put it on an ftp site somewhere? This would save an incredible amount of time and hassle.

    restore -T filename

and man restore will tell you how to get the file you want out of the install fileset.

I've just tested a 4.3 box I still have access to and the restore -T -f filename command works fine and lists the contents of the fileset as expected.

Sorry I did not intend to upset you with my earlier comments, I was simply trying to say that you need to do some research for your self to not only learn and understand what you need to know but also to remind you that this is a free forum and you should verify any advice given in case it is wrong and might damage your system.

Also I do not have an AIX 4.3.3 system and could not quickly find an AIX 4.3.3 command reference to verify the exact command you might need.

I would not expect any one to upload or send you any AIX executable files because that would be illegal due to the licensing restrictions of the product.

Are you sure the CD media you have is AIX install media? The message suggests it might not be installable base media but rather some sort of update disk.

    Regardless...

It's the original 4 CDs that I used to install AIX on the system a couple years ago. At this point, the binary is more important than what's on the system, so I guess I'm just going to have to reinstall it from scratch.

    Cheers.

    Your error message clearly says:
"there were no installable base level filesets found on the
    installation media"
It wouldn't just say that for a laugh...

What did you find on the media? Did you find the fileset by name or just a bunch of numbered filesets with a bff extension?
Often install media filesets are in bff (backup file format) format and do not have the filename you expect.
Check out the bffcreate command to turn these into real fileset names.

Have you tried through smitty, listing the installable options, selecting the fileset or package you need?

If you need to reinstall could you split a mirrored rootvg, install to the spare disk, grab the binary and then re-mirror, or if you have a spare disk then install to that to grab the binary?

If you installed from this media set then you / we should be able to work out how to get just the fileset you need.
