Hi Serdar,
Yes, this is a defect affecting SPSS Statistics on MacOS in Version 28. We know about it and will fix it, but for the time being there's a fairly simple workaround: After moving a covariate to the Categorical Covariates box, click on it, then change the Contrast drop-down menu choice in the Change Contrast section to a different kind of contrast, then change it back to Indicator. When you change it back, you should see "(Indicator(first))" appear in the contrast type description above, and the command created should include a CONTRAST subcommand with Indicator(1) specified.
It may also be the case that recalling the dialog might result in the choice of first or last category as the reference is not enabled. Again, changing the type of contrast should result in enabling these options. This will also be fixed.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

Subject: Logistic regression problem running Mac OS and SPSS 28
Good Afternoon:
I have run into a major problem with SPSS and logistic regression. I was wondering if anybody is able to switch the reference categories on their Macs (it works correctly on Windows machines) from first to last. On the Mac OS running SPSS 28 SUNY licensed version, I cannot switch the reference categories. Even though it defaults to the first category, the results are always for the last category. We did a new install on 2 Macs with no luck. I have a feeling this is a software issue with the Mac version. Any ideas what might be going on?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Serdar
