    Hi
Been using Cognos since IWR/Upfront/PowerPlay Web up until 10.2
Been playing with Cognos 11 since it came out and even with Cognos 11.1
I'm sad to say that when it comes to Visualization, especially ease of use and properties, still way behind Power BI and Tableau
    Example.
Here a simple List in Power BI, looks better, can Expand, can play with column width and other simple stuff which Cognos 11.1 can't do
I tried List and Crosstab in Cognos 11.1 but to no avail

Perhaps its the component use case that is confusing.  The Cognos Analytics Dashboard is intended to be used for Data Exploration and the Cognos Analytics Report is intended to be used when the display needs to be fine tuned including pixel perfect.  Given that breadth of capability I suspect you could in fact deliver the same look and feel as you have shown.

    Thanks Norbert
Just came back from an Analytics Symposium where different hospitals were showing off their different Interactive Dashboard/Visualization (IDnV). Everyone is now focusing on IDnV including Charts, Crosstabs/Lists, Prompts and total look and feel.
The Top BI where demoed (Tableau, Power BI, QlikTech and Cognos Analytics (CA11))
When it comes to Charts, CA11 is okay but lacking additional properties
But when it comes to Crosstabs/Lists, Prompts and total look and feel in IDnV, CA11 lacks behind. Even the hospital demoing CA11 had to defend the reason they stayed with CA11. And they did a great job showing off CA11
The great strength CA11 has over the other tools is IDnV integration to Reports and Stories was brought up only once because everyone is focused on IDnV

    Cheers

When it comes to crosstab in Cognos Analytics, I'm inclined to agree that we're lagging behind.  However, I think it's an important focus area and we've prioritized improving the crosstab/grid experience accordingly, and it should be much better moving forward into future releases. Data analysis has always been the strength of Cognos from Powerplay to Analysis Studio.  I think we can recapture some of that usability.

Would be nice the day Cognos could generate an animated chart similar to the one below generated by Tableau (click on link)

    Nice chart, thanks Richard.
Didn't tested it with latest 11.1.1 but 11.0.12 is giving this as best approach (slider on years makes the chart to be animated). I'm confident that upcoming 11.1 releases will surely close the remaining gap with Tableau chart.

Interesting visualization, I'll start using it.
Cognos 11.1, took a while to find the data and then to create an animated gif but creating the viz was a piece of cake.

What visualization did you use to create this?

It is a simple bar chart.   I did create a custom group by age in a Data Module.
I used the Data Player to add the animation to step through each year in the data.
Here is a area chart that makes it look a little smoother.
