  • 1.  Kubernetes on native z/OS

    Kubernetes is written in Go.  Is there anything stopping it from compiling and running on native z/OS (ie., not zCX)?  Honestly, I don't really even know what Kubernetes does, but I imagine it might be interesting to run on z/OS.

    IBM z/OS Container Platform (zOSCP) was announced on March 5 this year, and released on March 15. It implements native z/OS containers, and includes podman, runC and other container utilities. IBM also. has a statement of direction for Kubernetes: "IBM intends to deliver Kubernetes orchestration support for the management of the IBM z/OS Container Platform. This offering will enable consistent deployment of container-based z/OS applications using industry standard technology. Containerized z/OS UNIX applications and integration with Kubernetes on z/OS is essential to a cloud native strategy and is in support of the IBM Z® hybrid cloud strategy." All of these tools are written in Go and compiled with our compiler :-)
