  • 1.  K-TAP Module for AWS ubuntu 22.04

    Posted Wed April 30, 2025 04:08 AM

    Hi Everyone,

I'm currently working on deploying IBM Guardium and need assistance with building and installing K-TAP on an Ubuntu instance running on AWS.

If anyone has experience or documentation related to setting up K-TAP in this specific environment, I would greatly appreciate your guidance or any helpful resources you could share.

    Hello Kaustubh,

You may first check if IBM already has a compatible K-TAP for your specific Ubuntu Kernel version. You can check compatibility following instruction from this page:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ibm-security-guardium-new-k-tap-kernel-compatibility-checking-application

If a compatible K-TAP is available, you can download it from IBM Fix Central:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/

    Hope this helps.

    Hello Marcio

I've checked the K-TAP compatibility for my specific Ubuntu kernel version, but couldn't find a match.

Is there a way to build a custom K-TAP for the AWS Ubuntu kernel version?

According to the kernel compatibility checking application, only generic kernels of ubuntu are listed.

    Hello Kaustubh,

What is your Ubuntu Kernel version?

Remember that, it does not need to be an exact match. When you use the parameter KTAP_ALLOW_MODULE_COMBOS=Y, Guardium will attempt install a best match (if available).

However, if a best match is still not available, then you have to either ask IBM to build a KTAP or compile your own KTAP.

Guardium will automatically attempt to compile the KTAP on Ubuntu/Debian based servers, if you have the linux-headers for booted kernel image and the gcc compiler package installed

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/gdp/12.x?topic=tap-linux-unix-s-compilation-k

Also these are good articles on the KTAP compilation topic:
