  • 1.  job editor in analytics 11.1.7

    We always try to using the latest cognos analytics version. But this time we found a change in functionality that blocks us from using 11.1.7 in production.

    We have several jobs. In the jobs there are sometimes more than 50 report jobs that we are saving to different file locations.
    Or a report is multiple times added in the jobs, but with other prompt params.
    In the classic view: we can see in a second which report is saved to which folder. and if it's burst and which language.
    When cognos came with the new job editor it was fine, but we didn't used it because of the lack of information, and we could switch to the classic mode. So we ignored it and hoped for an improvement in  newer versions.

    In 11.1.7 the classic mode is gone. We know that cognos must move forward, but we hope that there is a workaround or a fix to add more columns to the steps overview page. (or better would be that a user can adjust which columns he wants to see.)

    in 11.1.6 we can click: classic view.  and in the classic view we see more info in one view. so easier editing the right report.

    in 11.1.7 there is a lot of free space but not filled with critical info.

    by several the same reports we see the differences between them in location or mail  or file type.  

    in the 11.1.7 we must click every row to see what settings are used.

    Yes, there are some things missing in the new UI. Hope they will expand on the interface as soon as posible. If you access the administration console -> Status -> Schedules, you can access the jobs and have the old interface. But since you have to be Admin to access this, it's not a good solution.

    I found a nother problem with the new Job-interface (11.1.7 FP2). If you have 10 reports in a Job and for some reason delete one of the reports in the portal, the Job will crash and you have to make a new one with the 9 reports that still exists. A wokaround is to edit the job from admin console as mentioned above, it will then remove the missing report and the Job in the new interface will work again. But for normal user this isnt possible since they're not Admins.

    I'm in agreement. It's always a disappointment when a new release removes old functionality (classic view), but doesn't provide it in the new interface. I have encountered the defect that Per Melinder mentioned and the work arounds are acceptable for an admin, but our end users use jobs, too.

    users are frustrating with workarounds,  Specially on jobs in R7 new interface wont show report path. we have to use classic view for that.

    Upgrade should include better features and to remove useful feature, hope IBM considers this point.

    just fyi,... you can view classic view following bellow. this is not user friendly.
