  • 1.  IVIG Admin Console locale

    Posted yesterday

    Hello,

Is there a way to set the console's locale to a specific value instead of relying on the browser's locale in IVIG SW?

We are referring to the console at the following endpoint: /itim/console/jsp/logon/Login.jsp.

We have tried using the erlocale attribute on the admin user, including the ITIM manager, but it is not working.

    tks.

I have never heard anything about that such a thing should be possible. In that sense IVIG is very standard and AFAIK the only way of setting the locale is via the browser.

Why would you override the browser locale ?

    Hi Franz,

Customer have standardized on using Edge in a language other than English. However, the support team would like to access the admin console in English only, leaving the UI interface to follow the browser's configuration.

That is pretty normal - but Edge will normally allow you to add additional languages.  In setting under Preferred Languages a user should be able to add another language - if this is restricted I would suggest trying to explain to the people doing this the consequences and silliness of such a restriction.

I hope this is just due to misunderstanding of how the world works....

Even when configuring another locale in Edge, the IVIG Console still uses the first language set in the browser. This also happens with other browsers.

Is there any option to force a specific locale or to present a choice for the administrator to select the locale they want to use, similar to what is available in the UI?

Yes - that is how browsers work.

The user has to move up the language to the first place to make it work - this is some very old logic behind that - for us that still remembers the early internet day with Netscape on OS/2 this is "just the way it works" :-)

    Hello,

    Thank you for your message.

At the moment, the IVIG SW console at /itim/console/jsp/logon/Login.jsp does not allow forcing a specific locale independently of the browser settings. The console relies entirely on the browser's locale during the logon page rendering, and the erlocale attribute on the admin or ITIM manager accounts does not override this behavior.

If you need to enforce a fixed locale, the usual approaches are:

    • Setting the browser or workstation locale to the required language.
    • Configuring a reverse proxy or gateway that injects the desired Accept-Language header.
    • Implementing a customization on the logon JSP to set the locale programmatically (only recommended if supported in your deployment model).

If you would like, we can look into a suitable workaround based on your environment.

    Thanks.
