We are using FCtool (version 4.3.2) with our HANA enviroment and our HANA admins ran into 2 issue with it:

1) The command "fctool --refresh [source] --sid [target] aborts with an error because there still exists an active backup (snapshot) of the target system. The refresh creates a CG (consistency group) named "[source]_[target]_COPY" which then doesn't get to be deleted after the failed refresh. This prevents another refresh (after correcting the original situation that led to the abort). To rectify this issue the empty CG on the SVC has to be deleted manually.
--> FCtool should clear/remove the unused CG after aborting the refresh (otherwise the storage admins have to be involved :) )
2) The reason for the faulty situation mentioned in 1) seems to be the follwoing: A query on a stopped HANA database does not give any feedback/information about existing backups (snapshots) although they are listed in the "fctool_SID.out" file.

Any thoughts about these 2 issues?

Hi Peter,
I will have a look in issue 1), and yes, fctool needs to cleanup after an error ;-)
To 2): fctool does not use the info from HANA, these info are not relevant: if a HANA SNAPSHOT exists. It is relevant if a flash-copy exists for the target system.
I need to check here what and how fctool does handle the situation: But I think if flash-copies exists, then "DATA" is used as source, and then DATA cannot (should not) be target at the same time,  I am going to check, Thanks,  Markus

Hi Peter, I just noticed your cmd line:
1) The command "fctool --refresh [source] --sid [target]
target and source are vice versa:
fctool --refresh target --sid source

I just tested the refresh, with exiting flashcopy backups on target, it works.
So please send me the log files of the failed refresh (after cleaning up the CG on the storage system)
