  • 1.  Issues switching application domains - IDG.2018.4.1.21

    Posted Thu May 04, 2023 12:24 PM

I'm all of a sudden having issues switching to one of my application domains.  I have 7 different domains,  6 have no issues.   When logging into the console if I choose that specific domain on login,  I can get into it just fine,  and once in navigate to the other domains just fine,  but then cannot navigate back into the problem domain.  Thoughts?

    Interesting.

The only thing I can think of is the domain name may have some kind of special character in it.

I find it curious, though.  You said, "...when logging into the console if I choose that specific domain...", are you talking about the serial interface, SSH, WebUI?  Typically you don't choose at the command line, you type.

I'm using whe WebGui, where it has the selector to choose domains

The domain is called Order, no special characters.

I had just before hand added a log target in the default domain which for some reason caused the appliance to reload

Did the log target survive the reload?  That is, were you able to persist it?

So, could it be your appliance is continuously reloading?  In our experience, domains load in alphabetical order (following default that is).  Since "Order" is late in the stage, if you are experiencing reloading, you may can change to one domain early in the alpha list and not one in later list.

Does the WebUI give you an error when you attempt to change to the Order domain but cannot get to it?

Have you tried via the CLI?  That is, go into some domain, then change domains with a "switch domain Order"?

    Hi Norbert,
I would normally suggest opening a PMR if you're seeing reloads, which you can tell if you are by looking in the default domain for a backtrace file and perhaps an error report.  However, the 2018.4.1 firmware release went end of support on April 30th.  See https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ibm-datapower-gateways-firmware-support-lifecycle for support dates for  all releases including in this case a link to the EOS announcement which was made in April 2022.  It is definitely time to look into a firmware upgrade.  If you would still see reloads on a supported firmware version, don't hesitate to open a PMR.

As for your problem at hand, are you saying you had no issues until you added the log target in the default domain?  If you had saved the log target prior to the reload, can you delete the logging target and save the configuration prior to another reload to determine if the logging target is the root cause?  Although the temporary:///backtrace files are somewhat encrypted, they will provide some useful information as to the cause of the reload, for example if you're experiencing an out of memory situation, or if you are experiencing a firmware crash (hopefully not) where you'll may see a segment fault number.

    Best Regards,

We planning the firmware migration,  this is a speedbump in the process.
