  • 1.  ISQL download

    Posted Tue December 19, 2023 08:38 AM

    Hi Family.

I may need to quickly refresh myself on ISQL.  Is there a "consultants" version (i.e. free download) of this product?

Anyone have the URL for this?  My recent search missed it; it may be there under my nose.  (Well, so is my mouth but I can't see that either. ;-)

    Thanks.

    Hi Jacob,

it's a question which features you need from Informix SQL tool. Informix CSDK contains dbaccess which allows to submit SQL statements against local/remote database server. You can download it here:

Add-ons for developers - IBM Informix | IBM

    Ibm remove preview
Add-ons for developers - IBM Informix | IBM
IBM Informix Developer tools help you collaborate, develop, optimize and manage your Informix databases.
    View this on Ibm >

If you don't need the technical support for Informix CSDK, you can use it free of charge. If you need the support, you need to buy the licenses.

    Hope, it helps.

    Thanks, Jan.

Dbaccess comes with the engine anyway. But as a curiosity I tried to run isql and got the message to run:

    sudo apt install unixodbc

After doing that I tried running isql again and got a screenful of options, none of which were familiar to me.  This is NOT the same ISQL I used to teach, with the text-based screen for queries and data entry, with the ace report writer (saceprep and sacego) and perform for forms creation and data entry.

The manual I have downloaded is for release 6 and was "printed" in 1994.

That's what I am looking for.

Now that I have cleared that up, can anyone direct me to the software download for Linux (Mint)?

    Again, thank for the pointer.

Unlike the Informix engine, there isn't a Developers Edition of any Informix tool (ISQL, 4GL, etc). Time-based evaluation licenses are available as part of a purchase process through an IBM seller but that's it. Sorry.

Perhaps so, Carlton.  I can see about that once I find the blessed thing.  But it does not seem to be anywhere I know to look to even try to download. For now, I suppose, I'll have to subsist on reading that 30-year-old manual.

But thanks for the heads-up on this. (Actually, more of a thumbs down.)
