    Following on from @Chris Bailey's earlier post. We're delighted to share that the technology preview capabilities he describes are now available for you to try in the IBM Cloud Pak for Applications v4.2. 

    Introducing Accelerators

    The container platform is becoming an increasingly popular choice for enterprises looking to deliver new digital experiences and cloud-native solutions. With microservice architectures and DevOps practices, perfectly pairing with lightweight containers and Kubernetes. As part of adopting these technologies and approaches, we see Git workflows for both developers and operations teams as critical for success. Combining Git for source code and GitOps for a single source of truth on deployments. 

     

    The release of IBM Cloud Pak for Applications v4.2 includes exciting new technology preview capabilities to help you build these solutions; providing an end-to-end accelerated workflow for multi-disciplinary teams that spans from idea to Day2 operations. We've released in this way so that we can share our thoughts with you at an early stage, and actively seek feedback from this community to help shape our approach and ensure what we deliver meets your needs.

     

    In this technology preview architects can discover and learn best practices for building cloud-native solutions with containers and microservices, through Reference Blueprints from the IBM Cloud Architecture Center. They can design their own Solution Blueprint, composed of connected RESTful and reactive microservices and their dependent services. From this design, Accelerators automatically generate all the required source code repositories in Git, and populate them with scaffolded microservices that are continuously built in containers. GitOps repos are setup with the required configuration for deployment through OpenShift pipelines and Kubernetes Operators. Together this fully automates iteration 0 of a complex project setup.

     

    REST and Reactive microservices can be built from Application Stacks with Starter Template, which are a feature of Accelerators for Teams in IBM Cloud Pak for Apps, and include runtimes and frameworks that are optimized for containerized microservices. The stacks allow architects to standardize on technology choices for their teams; ensuring that they are using supported and compliant technology, and are simplifying upgrades and maintenance. With this technology preview you can use a default set of curated stacks that includes Open Liberty, Quarkus, Spring Boot, and Node.js with Express.
