Hello, I want to do a sizing for Instana on-prem, I'm wondering how to calculate the Maximum of Reporting Entities, I can see it's as below:
    Maximum of Reporting Entities = #Hosts + #Containers * #Sensors .
Can anyone explain what does it mean exactly hosts, containers, sensors ?
Host is the physical machines or VM?
Containers are the number of containers that Instana will monitor ?
Sensors are the apps that instana will monitor ?
    Thanks.

'Hosts' corresponds to each physical or virtual host on which you install an Instana agent.

'Containers' is indeed the number of monitored containers.

'Sensors' is the number of active sensors, i.e. sensors that correspond to a running application or technology on a host agent.

    Thanks Bart,
I have a doubt regarding the formula, it's
    Maximum of Reporting Entities = #Hosts + ( #Containers * #Sensors ).
    or
    Maximum of Reporting Entities = (#Hosts + #Containers ) * #Sensors .

    Thanks.

This makes most sense to me:
    Maximum of Reporting Entities = (#Hosts + #Containers ) * #Sensors

Same for me, but in the sizing document in Seismic, they are mentioning the below which does not make sense.

This document is already 3 years old, and a lot of versions and enhancements have been passed meanwhile.

Please raise a support case to get an official answer on this. Support can help you do the sizing.
