  • 1.  Installing WebSphere Liberty v23 with IBM Semeru OpenJDK 11 on AIX

    Hi,

    I am new to WebSphere Liberty. Appreciate if could get some help /guidelines of installing WebSphere Liberty v23 on AIX with IBM IM(GUI), whereas we have a requirement of using IBM Semeru OpenJDK 11.

    Here the details about how to install Liberty via Installation Manager:

    For installing this Liberty fix pack that uses Installation Manager, download and install Installation Manager 1.9 or later from the IBM Installation Manager download website . The Liberty fix pack for Installation Manager must be installed on top of an existing Liberty installation on any 8.5.5.x level or 16.0.0.2 onwards.
    So basically you have to download the Liberty installation Package via Passport Advantage and the Liberty fixpack from the IBM Support Page

    For the Java package, please take a look at https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/598477

    There you can find the Link to the Installation Manager packages for the Semeru Runtimes.

    Please keep in mind that you do not need the IBM Installation Manager to install Liberty. Instead of using the Installation Manager, you could also use the Liberty Archive Installation which is basically an unzip and available for Liberty, the JDK as well as the IBM HTTP Server incl. Plugin. For details about the different available Liberty archive packages, please take a look at 24.0.0.9: WebSphere Application Server Liberty 24.0.0.9 (ibm.com) for example.

    Hi,

    I'd strongly discourage using IM for installing Liberty. Much easier, better and more aligned with DevOps best practices is the Archive method that Lars mentioned.
    You have archives for every WebSphere Liberty versions and also for JDKs and they dont require installing additional operating system packages and dependencies.
